Inflections #1: James Moore and Jeremy Thal

January 18, 2007, 8:00 PM

Rejecting the concept their instruments might be inherently incompatible, guitarist James Moore and French Horn player Jeremy Thal have assembled a truly diverse program of renegade solo and ensemble peices for the first concert. The show will open with a set of 20th century guitar pieces, featuring Ingram Marshall's "Soe-pa" for amplified guitar with delay, and selections from John Zorn's "Book of Heads" for several guitars with a smorgasbord of strange external effects.

The rest of the program includes Olivier Messiaen's solo french horn piece "Appel Interstellaire," Christian Wolff's "Electric Spring I" for amplified quartet, and a new duo for guitar and horn by the Queens-based composer Christopher Marianetti. AMP will close the show with an exciting multi-media piece featuring a large ensemble and video improvisation.

Series continues the third Thursday of each month until June (except April).

Inflections #2: Daniel Lippel (guitar)

February 15th, 2007, 7:30 PM

Daniel Lippel has fashioned a recital that addresses dignity and austerity from a modernist perspective. The classical guitar relies less on brute sonic impact than tonal nuance and formal delicacy, and here, Daniel assumes a full range of expressionist attitudes, delighting in the resulting explorations of sound and texture. With this richly varied and even elusive program, Daniel invites the audience to listen and feel their way through these bodies as they emerge, transform and disappear.
